Acqua Summer 2011

Welcome to my blog! This blog was written by an exchange student who had been to Mexico for a short summer program. During my sojourn in Mexico, I had been studying in Tech De Mont, a prestigious, rich and well-recognized international university in Mexico. The courses that I took include basic Spanish and Introduction to the Mexican's Culture. I was a Singaporean undergraduate in National University of Singapore, NUS.

This blog is divided into different topics according to various themes and period: Arrival to Mex, Memoir's of my host family (8 parts).

Memoirs of my host family - part 4

MEXICAN FOOD, a topic of interest for many who is indulgent in the delicacies of food. Apparently, as a vegetarian, my range of choices is strictly limited by the kind of non-meat dishes they have to offer. Unfortunately, most of the time, I am compelled to a dish of french fries especially in school or outside where vegetarians are ignored, as I stubbornly dislike salad.

At home when I am hungry and choosy, I chose to reject my host mom's food for a bowl of bought-from-Singapore-but-imported-from-Taiwan vegetarian instant noodles. Either that, I will sometimes indulged in Lays potato chips or Ruffles. Ice-cream, apple juice, french fries were occasional indulgence but I had little time and money to splurged on them.

All these were prepared by my host mother, entirely!

Mexican's rice
The Mexicans love to eat orange rice which is actually rice with carrot added into it, I think?

This is rice with french beans and scrambled eggs, one of my host mum's favorite vegetables?

Rice with cauliflower, carrots and cucumber.

 Soups
It may not look appealing but it is actually very delicious and all the soups that she cooked was healthy as she claimed.

The one above has a different texture.
It was rather thick and very flavored, absolutely yummy!

The leftovers because they were chile and I don't eat them :X

Beans' soup. Quite delicious except I don't eat the beans :(

The leftovers. Seriously, preparing food for me is not easy!

The original ingredients used. I have no idea what kind of beans this is.

I love vegetables' soup. When cooked properly, it is actually very fragrant and delicious!

Potato soup cum some fried stuff which I am sure does not come from meat.

It has potato and carrot, I think.

Vermicelli! I can't believe that such Chinese food actually existed in Mexico!
Anyway, it was well cooked!

This one has no ingredients in it as I was so choosy as to throw away them whenever she cooked with ingredients...

Traditional Mexican food

Tacos de papas! It means tacos of potato.
The skin is crunchy but just too oily and I asked her to stop preparing food like this for me even though I know they love tacos a hell lot but it is simply too oily.
