Acqua Summer 2011

Welcome to my blog! This blog was written by an exchange student who had been to Mexico for a short summer program. During my sojourn in Mexico, I had been studying in Tech De Mont, a prestigious, rich and well-recognized international university in Mexico. The courses that I took include basic Spanish and Introduction to the Mexican's Culture. I was a Singaporean undergraduate in National University of Singapore, NUS.

This blog is divided into different topics according to various themes and period: Arrival to Mex, Memoir's of my host family (8 parts).

Memoirs of my host family - part 3

In this post, I will show you how my host family's house looks like. Their house looks like the terrace type and they have their own parking lot and a mini garden. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 bathroom and 1 toilet, 2 dining rooms, 1 living room and 1 kitchen. They have a balcony, a mini garden and a parking lot etc. I consider their house pretty big, and it is a two storey house.
 Outside my house

This is the neighborhood.
Turning left will head me to the path to school, downtown and Yishen's house.

There are many cars parked outside our house.

Interesting sculptures decorating the opposite of my host family's house.

Inside my house

The front of my house when one enters.

The little house of Cloy at the corner.
This empty space is for parking.

My host mum outside and host dad driving the car into the house.

This was an exceptional day in which my host family was selling off their old collections of clocks and everything antique. I was rather surprised at the number of people who turned up.

There is a balcony above the "car park".

Too much collection of "junks" outside their house, cluttering the entrance. It was around 7pm in Querétaro, Mexico's time when I took this photo. That was why the lights were switched on, guessed they were inside the house watching TV.

Their car's plate number.

I could see my host dad inside the house gluing to the TV!

My kitchen cum dining place
The place for meals and where I first started cooking.

This is the view when one enters the inside of the house.
A medium-size kitchen and a comfy dining place.

When occupied... The television is never switched off...
The occupants were Mike and my host mum.
Apparently, Mike has already moved to her new apartment before I left for Singapore.
It was kind of poignant when she said she was leaving because the house will become emptier without her...

The television above the "Agua" is the focal point of our nightly entertainment.

Agua in Spanish means water and is meant for everyday's survival.

Their cabinet in the kitchen.
Beside it is the living room and another gorgeous dining room.

A peak view of the dining room where mainly guests are entertained here.

Their kitchen!

Living room cum another dining room

Welcome here!
This is the door leading to their relaxed living room where I seldom reside but is the frequent doorway leading to my bedroom.

They have 2 living rooms here as one can see.
My host dad likes to nap on the sofa in the foreground.
This is the place where guests are usually served.

Yeah, a gorgeous living room, isn't it?
I never really used this room at all in my entire stay in their house.

Everything in this room is meant for decoration, it feels.
It has little purpose and usage.

Taken from another angle. It feels classy.

My bedroom

Let's take the stairs, shall we?

The walls along the stairway are decorated with many items...
Making it pretty cosy...

One of the world's most famous paintings!
Mona Lisa. I'm sure it is a replica...

Want to see my room? :)

My bedroom on the first day of my sojourn.
I was trying to take out everything in my luggage and placed them in the drawer.

After a few days, I decided to shift the table to facilitate my laptop usage as the power sockets were just underneath it. In my entire stay in Querétaro, I never watched TV from my room before. In fact, I don't even know where is the switch!

Another room that is adjacent to mine.
It was pretty clean and decent, looks like they were waiting for more tenants to come in? Haha...

Another room that they used it to store all their unwanted stuff. It's almost fully filled...
In this room, there is a door leading to their balcony where one can view their neighbor's sculptures.

Open my room's door and opposite it is my toilet, separated by a walkway.
I'm glad that it is very clean and bright.

It is decent toilet cum shower room.
Open the window and one sees the sculptures of my neighbor.

Let's get out of my room and go somewhere and see?

Their balcony and neighbor's sculptures

They planted several pots of flowers and my host mother will water them almost daily in the morning.

Pretty artistic, isn't it?
I guess there is no neighbor like my host family has in this world where they placed sculptures on their rooftop?

Another view from the balcony where the door is the main door out of the house.

Their mini garden

Just behind the kitchen lies their mini garden where Mike resided in and where laundry is done, as shown above.

Beside the laundry is the place where they hang their clothes on the lines.

And where they dumped their unwanted things.

Taken from the point of view of Mike's place.

Another doorway to the living room from the garden.

This is the place where Mike stayed and the windows are that of the living room.

~THE END~
