Acqua Summer 2011

Welcome to my blog! This blog was written by an exchange student who had been to Mexico for a short summer program. During my sojourn in Mexico, I had been studying in Tech De Mont, a prestigious, rich and well-recognized international university in Mexico. The courses that I took include basic Spanish and Introduction to the Mexican's Culture. I was a Singaporean undergraduate in National University of Singapore, NUS.

This blog is divided into different topics according to various themes and period: Arrival to Mex, Memoir's of my host family (8 parts).

Memoirs of my host family - part 5

This post is about the food that I prepared for my own consumption as I really was sick of the Mexican's food. The photos looked deceiving as the actual taste was far worst than I imagined. Still, they marked the beginning of my self-discovery as this was formally the first time I ever tried cooking, not at my own home in Singapore though, but in Mexico. When I was in Mexico for the first few days, I was very fond of Singapore's vegetarian food especially Mai Zhi Su (麦之素) and I swore that I will cook Chinese food for myself here, and so I did it!

I was trying to stir-fry vegetables.
But I realised I added too much water and over cooked it.
The resulting tastes was horrible and I threw it away after trying, much to the horror of my host mother who had been helping me with the cooking.

I put the vegetables aside and started frying the potatoes, one of my favorite food!

It looked deceivingly decent.

Alors, the full meal was ready for consumption!

Another Chinese cuisine - La Comida China.

I was waiting for the porridge to be cooked.

I was stirring it constantly to achieve an even blend of taste for the ingredients that I put in.

Much to my disappointment, the porridge tasted very bland and I couldn't figure it out the reason why.
I already had given my best shot but still...

My host mother was doing the washing up, like she always did it for me after I "messed" up her kitchen with La Comida China. Haha...

My favorite food in Singapore, French beans. But it was not thoroughly cooked as it felt too raw.

A close-up of this dish looked awesome in terms of colour and texture.
The mushrooms looked deceivingly like they were some delicious meat...

This time round, I maked sure the vegetables were thoroughly cooked. So I boiled them with water first before I cooked with the rice to make Fried Rice, a typical Chinese cuisine.

The final product of blending!

~THE END~
