Acqua Summer 2011

Welcome to my blog! This blog was written by an exchange student who had been to Mexico for a short summer program. During my sojourn in Mexico, I had been studying in Tech De Mont, a prestigious, rich and well-recognized international university in Mexico. The courses that I took include basic Spanish and Introduction to the Mexican's Culture. I was a Singaporean undergraduate in National University of Singapore, NUS.

This blog is divided into different topics according to various themes and period: Arrival to Mex, Memoir's of my host family (8 parts).

Dear student,
The NUS International Relations Office (IRO) is pleased to inform you that you have been selected to participate in the AcquaSummer programme offered by Tec de Monterrey, which would take place from 25 May to 6 July 2011.  Congratulations!

1. Acceptance of Offer
Please respond via email to irook@nus.edu.sg by Wednesday 13 April 2011, 5pm with a confirmation of your acceptance of the place for the above-mentioned programme.  If you decide not to take up the offer, please also inform us by the deadline.

2. Programme Fee & Online Application (required by partner university)
Once you have confirmed your acceptance of the offer, you will be notified with regard to the payment procedures for the programme fee (estimated at about USD $1,800 before airfare).  You will also be notified about completing the online application form (required by the partner university offering the AcquaSummer programme).

3. Application for Visa
Please note that you will have to make arrangements to apply for your own Mexico visa (if required) to participate in the AcquaSummer programme.  More information about the visa application process can be found at this webpage: http://portal.sre.gob.mx/singapur/index.php?option=displaypage&Itemid=54&op=page&SubMenu

As a general rule-of-thumb, holders of Singapore passports do not need to apply for a visa to enter Mexico for this programme (you can enter as tourists, which will exempt you from the need to have a visa).  However, do note that you will be required to apply for a US transit visa if you are transiting through the States to Mexico.

Most other Asian nationalities will require a visa to visit Mexico.  Please apply for a tourist visa as it is easier and faster, and allow at least one month for your visa application to be processed.

4. Pre-Departure Briefing
IRO will be organising a pre-departure briefing for you at the following time/venue:

Pre-Departure Briefing for Mexican Summer Programmes
Tuesday 19 April 2011, 11am
Central Library Theatrette 1

The briefing will allow you to meet other students who are embarking on the same programme, and will provide an opportunity for you to find out more details about the programme (e.g. visa requirements, pre-departure preparation, etc.).  If you are unable to attend the briefing, please let me know as soon as you can.

5. IRO Study and Travel Grant
As you will be participating in a programme offered through IRO, you are eligible to apply for financial assistance through the Study and Travel Grant.  The Grant will be offered based on merit (for students with a CAP of 3.5 and above) OR financial need.  Details about the Grant can be found in the attached application form, and successful applicants will be informed about the amount they will receive later.  Please note that all applications for the Grant should be lodged via email to go-iro@nus.edu.sg by 30 April 2011.

Please feel free to contact us via email at go-iro@nus.edu.sg with regard to any further queries that you may have.

Best regards,
Orion
